The number of products and item manufactured through stamping are quite vast in number which shows how integral and important they really are to modern life. Each and every pressing has its own use and importance to the industry it serves and was created for. Pressing or stampings are created by using sheet metal and inserting the flat sheet metal into a specialist machine often referred to as a stamping press but also sometimes called a power press and some other types presses are hydraulic press etc. The metal sheet is then formed into the correct shape or shapes making use of a metal die. A die is an implement which is pushed into the sheet metal. The forces the sheet metal to take the shape of the die. Various other types of assembly variation can be made to the metal sheet using the die as per customer requirement industry requirement.
It may also undergo future treatment such as punching, bending, blanking, embossing, coining & flanging etc. in single stroke or multiple strokes as per tool design. Out of all these punching is the easiest to understand as it simply refers to the desired metal shape being punched out of the surrounding material.
There are many other types of pressings including stretching, necking and hammering. Sheet Metal Components usually need various types of surface treatments/plating such as ZINC plating, Blackodizing, TIN plating, NICKEL plating. Powder Coating, Chrome plating, PU coating etc. to protect the base metal from corrosion and wear and tear. Some of the above surface treatments are also used for decoration & visual appeal
